Dare Eposu, a 33-year-old, who allegedly robbed a man with others still at large of valuables worth N8, 000, was on Tuesday brought before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The accused, whose occupation and address were not provided, was docked on two counts bordering on armed robbery before Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Eposu’s plea was not taken because the offence of armed robbery can only be tried at a high court.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Kemi Adeniran, said the accused committed the offences on June 6 with others still at large at about 11.15 p.m. at Okeposu Street in Epe area of Lagos.
Adeniran told the court that the accused and others robbed the complainant, Owolabi Salami.
“They robbed Salami of his watch worth N5,000, his radio which is valued at N3,000 and other valuables.’’
The offences contravened Sections 297 and 295(1), (2), (a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Oshodi-Makanju said the case file should be sent to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
“We will need to hear from the DPP whether I can hear this charge of armed robbery brought against on Eposu.
“It is necessary that this court follows the criminal justice administration procedure in this case,’’ she said.
The magistrate remanded the accused and adjourned the case to Nov. 1 for DPP’s advice. (NAN).
