The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on Monday in Abuja says it will set up a peace committee to help address the leadership crisis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The newly elected Chairman of the committee, Mr Mohammed Nalado disclosed this when he led members of the newly elected executive of the council in a courtesy visit to the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Nalado said that the committee was important to enable peace to reign in PDP.

“Very soon, we are going to set up a committee that will help to our sister party, PDP, that is engulfed in crisis.

“As a sister of all political parties, we are going to make sure that we get into the matter as a helping hand to make sure peace is restored to PDP,” he said.

The IPAC chairman, who sought the cooperation of INEC for the Council, pledged his support to INEC in its effort to implement electoral policies that would give Nigeria an enduring democracy.

He said he was delighted that IPAC was able to overcome the recent leadership tussle that engulfed it and affected its operations in the last one year.

“We have a fraction in IPAC before but that has been resolved. Now we don’t have any iota of difference in IPAC. We are now one family,” Nadalo said.

He promised that the newly elected executive would, at its inauguration ceremony scheduled for Aug. 26, present its manifesto, which would cover various sectors of the country’s economy.

In his remark, the Chairman of INEC, Yakubu called for IPAC continuous support to the commission in order to make the country’s electoral process a success.

Yakubu said that INEC would continue to support and consult IPAC not only over immediate issue but also over medium and long term issues, especially on electoral reform.

“The electoral reform required amendment of the constitution, the electoral act and the electoral guidelines.

“We will continue to rely on the support of political parties in order to achieve that so that we can strengthen our democratic process,” Yakubu said. (NAN)
